The original source exists, but during summarization, AI omits important conditions or caveats, or interprets them in the opposite direction.

Examples:

  • "According to research, A is more effective than B" → The original text states "only under specific conditions" or "only in a small sample"
  • Summarizing only positive results while omitting limitations and side effects
  • Presenting correlation as causation

How to verify: Read the original text of important claims directly and check for caveats. Watch for "only in cases where...", "excluding...", "sample size of N" etc.

AI misinterprets statistical figures or mixes numbers from different sources.

Examples:

Step 1: Classify Importance

  • Will this information be used directly in a report, presentation, or decision-making?

Step 2: Verify Source Existence

Step 3: Check Date/Currency

  • Is this information based on the latest standards?
  • Could this information have changed after the AI's training data cutoff?
  • Policies, laws, fees, tax rates, software versions → Must verify current status
  • Search news for recent changes

Step 4: Check Context Caveats

  • Were important conditions or caveats omitted from the original text?
  • Especially check limiting conditions like "only in cases where...", "excluding...", "sample size of N"
  • Check whether negative results or limitations were omitted

Step 5: Cross-Verify

  • Have you confirmed the same content from 2 or more independent sources?
